Estimates and scheduling
Are estimates really free?
Yes. We come to your property, look at the job, and give you a written estimate. No charge, no obligation. If the job doesn't need doing, we'll tell you that too.
How fast can you come out?
We reply within 24 hours to set a time, and the estimate visit is usually within a few days. Storm damage and fallen trees get priority.
Will you meet with me to talk through what I want?
Yes. That's the whole point of the estimate visit. Bring your ideas, your budget, and the photo you saved on your phone. We'll tell you what works in North Texas and what doesn't.
Can I count on you showing up?
We schedule a date at the estimate and we keep it. If weather pushes a job, you'll hear from us before the crew was due, not after.
Do you guarantee your work?
Yes. Our satisfaction guarantee is simple: if something isn't right, call us and we'll come back and make it right.
What areas do you cover?
Garland, Rowlett, Sachse, Richardson, Mesquite, Murphy, Sunnyvale, Wylie, Rockwall, and the Lake Highlands, White Rock and East Dallas neighborhoods of Dallas. See the map.
Do you speak Spanish?
Sí. Our crew is happy to talk through your project in Spanish or English.
Trees
When is the best time to trim trees in North Texas?
Most trees can be trimmed any time of year. Oaks are the exception: the safest window is July through January. From February through June, fresh cuts attract the beetles that spread oak wilt, so we avoid pruning oaks then, and seal any cut we have to make after a storm.
Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Garland?
It depends on the city and on the size and type of tree. Some cities in our area protect larger trees. We check before we schedule and tell you what's required.
My tree is leaning after heavy rain. Is it an emergency?
Clay soil gets soft when it's saturated, and shallow-rooted trees can start to lean. If the lean is new, the soil is heaving on one side, or the tree is over a structure, call us the same day. If it's been leaning for years and hasn't moved, it's probably fine, but have it looked at.
A tree fell on my fence. What do I do first?
Stay away from any power lines, take a few photos before anything is moved, then call us. We clear the tree, open up access, and haul everything away.
Do you grind stumps, or just cut the tree?
Both. We grind stumps six to twelve inches below grade and backfill so you can sod or plant right over the spot.
Can I keep the firewood?
Yes. Tell us when you book and we'll cut the trunk into rounds and stack them where you want.
Why does my crape myrtle look like a stump every spring?
Because it's been "crape murdered". Cutting a crape myrtle back to thick stubs weakens it and produces those knuckles. We prune crape myrtles structurally, removing suckers, crossing branches and seed heads, so they grow into the tree they're supposed to be.
Lawn care
How often should my lawn be mowed?
Weekly from April through September for Bermuda and St. Augustine, and every other week in the cooler months. We set the schedule at the estimate and adjust it with the season.
When should I fertilize?
Three main feedings in North Texas: spring green-up (after the lawn is actively growing), early summer, and fall. We handle it on a schedule so you don't have to remember.
What is ryegrass and do I need it?
Bermuda goes dormant and brown after the first freeze. Overseeding with annual ryegrass in late September or October keeps the lawn green through winter. It's optional; some people like the look and some don't mind the dormant lawn.
My sprinkler system waters the street. Can you fix that?
Yes. We replace heads and risers, adjust spray patterns, repair valves, and program the controller to match your city's watering schedule.
Sod, planting and beds
When is the best time to lay sod?
Late spring through early fall for Bermuda, St. Augustine and Zoysia, so the roots establish before winter. Sod laid in July works as long as it's watered correctly, and we give you the schedule. Read our sod guide.
How much should I water new sod?
Daily for the first two weeks, then taper. We leave written instructions with every install.
When should I plant trees and shrubs?
Fall and winter, October through February. Roots get a head start before the summer heat, and the tree needs far less water its first year.
How deep should mulch be?
Two to three inches, pulled back a few inches from tree trunks and plant stems. Piling mulch against a trunk holds moisture on the bark and invites rot.
What flowers hold up in a Garland summer?
Periwinkle (vinca), lantana, purslane, pentas and zinnias. For winter, pansies and violas.
Cleanup and drainage
Water stands in my yard for days after it rains. What fixes that?
Usually a French drain: a gravel trench with perforated pipe that carries water to a curb or a lower part of the lot. Sometimes it's just regrading or extending a downspout. We'll tell you which at the estimate. Read our drainage guide.
Do you haul everything away?
Yes. Branches, leaves, old rock, dead shrubs, construction debris. It goes on the trailer and the yard is raked clean.
Do you clean gutters?
Yes, and we'll tell you if a downspout is dumping water at your foundation and needs an extension.
